Following removal late in to the night last Wednesday at Craigentinny, today myself and Dave Greenwood worked on the Air Start and Fuel Injection adaptors from ‘C’ Bank on 55 022’s Number 1 engine. All were completely stripped and thoroughly cleaned, investigation found that a few sealing washers were found to be corroded, these were replaced with correctly sized Napier Sealing Washers from our spares. Some O-Rings were found to be not sealing correctly and evidence showed that sealant may have been used that is not within the overhaul specification. New O-Rings have been fitted and we are awaiting delivery of the correct sealing compound and hope to have these parts re-installed later this week at Springburn. It will then be a case of leaving them to set for a week or so before re-filling the engine with coolant and more testing. I hope to keep those interested updated with developments in due course. The images below show views from opposite ends of both a Air Start and Fuel Injection adaptor, the threaded sections screw directly in to the Cylinder Liners. As always, thanks to our engineer Dave Greenwood for his help today. Best Wishes, Martin…
