Thanks to all who attended the Bo’ness & Kinneil Railway’s Summer Diesel Gala last weekend, particularly those who travelled behind ‘Royal Scots Grey’. The loco ran on the Saturday under the guise of 55 003 ‘Meld’ as has been the case since mid February. On the Sunday morning myself and my good friend Alan Knight, changed the cosmetic exterior identity to display 55 007 and named ‘Pinza’. It was entertaining to see some people’s faces when taking photographs. expecting to see ‘Meld’!! As many will be aware, many requests were made for the loco to appear in this guise as the loco was definitely one of Finsbury Park’s most popular 55s. The photo above shows the 11.30 departure from Bo’ness on Sunday 26th July, thanks to Ian Robinson for his nice shot.

The ‘Meld’ nameplates will shortly be offered for sale, as we hope to raise a few pounds towards the bodywork repairs currently being carried out on D9016 ‘Gordon Highlander’ from the sale of plates carried by the loco. If you are interested in one of these nameplates, please contact me initially by e-mail at class40martin@hotmail.com.

The great variety of locos at this year’s Bo’ness Diesel Gala, ensured a very busy event and an extra coach was added to service trains from the 15.00 departure on Saturday behind 55 022 to try and accommodate such large numbers. It was great to see as usual that all trains hauled by 55 022 were packed and the loco was much appreciated. Thanks to everyone involved in whatever way at the Bo’ness & Kinneil Railway, particularly Andy McLean, Lindsay Patterson, Stuart Sellar and the diesel group for assistance with maintenance and the usual sound cooperation. Thanks also to GB RailFreight for their help in moving the loco from Knorr-Bremse Rail Services, Springburn Works to Bo’ness and return.

The next job for the loco under its new guise should be on Friday 7th August, when the loco will run light to Springburn and then resume work immediately on the E.M.U./Translator Coach moves to Shields T.M.D. Planned timings are:-
