55 022 NEW HOME AT THE NORTH YORKSHIRE MOORS RAILWAY

8 Apr , 2016

With thanks to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, I am very hopeful that my search for a suitable new home for 55 022 is taking shape nicely. Plans are progressing for ‘Royal Scots Grey’ to move to Grosmont by rail hauling Class 26 loco, 26 038 in the near future.

Original discussions focused on a visit to last a few months and include the NYMR Diesel Gala, however it would appear that 55 022 would be a very good addition to the diesel fleet at the Railway. Particularly with its mainline certification, which should allow use on the Battersby and Whitby sections and also be used for moving locos between Railways and taking stock for maintenance etc. Additionally, the railway is located within a reasonable distance of Huddersfield and offers the prospect of regular operation along a beautifully scenic and lengthy line as well as a Network Rail connection.

At this stage I am still working on the finer details with Eddie Knorr the NYMR Head of Traction and Rolling Stock, we hope to finalise everything soon and an announcement will be made in due course.

I am sure many readers of this site will be well aware of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway and it’s attractions, information can be found at http://www.nymr.co.uk/

During 55 022's last visit to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, the loco is seen approaching Goathland with the 12.30 Grosmont to Pickering train during the diesel gala on 14th September 2012. Photo thanks to Brian Sherrington.
