ADDITIONAL WORK AT THE NENE VALLEY RAILWAY

27 May , 2017

The Nene Valley Railway enquired if 55 022 could remain a little longer than originally planned and play a big part in their ‘TPO – Travelling Post Office weekend taking place on the 24th and 25th June. The loco was due to return to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway prior to that weekend, but have now confirmed that there is no requirement to return until the start of the main summer season ‘Gold Timetable’.

The weekend should see 55 022, still running as 55 018 ‘Ballymoss’ hauling the Travelling Post Office Coaches on demonstration runs past the ex Royal Mail lineside collection equipment. This is located at Sutton Cross, a short distance outside Wansford Station, where some of the Railway’s collection of ex Royal Mail coaches can be seen exchanging mail after arriving there in the passenger carrying coaches.

D9016 ‘Gordon Highlander’ hauled a train in 2014 at the Great Central Railway, but this is the first time that ‘Royal Scots Grey’ will have worked this type of train. Further details will be advised soon, in the meantime information regarding the Nene Valley Railway can be found at http://www.nvr.org.uk/
